My Work

This is the latest system build I managed. This system is is MASSIVE, and our requirements changed daily. I enjoyed it very much!
- Over 200 servers are required to run it
- Dozens of services
- A custom Flash player and flash widgets
- Many meta data services for calculating artist relationships
- A huge admin system for programming and managing terrestrial, online, and user created stations

Working for Citibank was a fantastic experience. I worked for the Advanced Development Group in West Los Angeles Some of the highlights were:
- I wrote the prototype for Citibank’s Bill presentation system
- I wrote the prototype for the Citibank Internet banking system DirectAccess
- I met the inventor of the Java programming language, James Gosling
- As a lead on the “Branch of the Future” project, I had my photograph in TIME magazine (April 1998)

In 1999 I did a large amount of work for Dell as a contractor. Some of the highlights were:
- I programmed the Dell Careers website, including a Resume Builder, HR calendar scheduler, Austin walk-through and much more
- I traveled on several occasions to Austin to work with Dell’s ERP group to work on integrating the Internet systems to Dell’s ERP system

Cisco Systems have consultants all over the world. In 1998 they had no way for customers to access contact information for these consultants. Cisco gave an Access database to me, which I converted to SQL Server. Along with another programmer, I built an international Cisco consultant locator website.

I ran a complete rebuild of the Ticketmaster Online system in 1999. This included a new data model, display code, integration to the legacy system(Old VAX farm), and varied regional grouping of venues. The performance requirements of Ticketmaster are EXTREMELY high, so I became quite skilled at load testing and performance tuning.

Variety Magazine needed a new web system to allow online subscribers access to premium content, amongst other improvements. In addition, I worked out a design to tie together the many disparate publishing databases the magazine had. This allowed the various reporters and editors the ability to publish online content. It was basically a custom-built content management system at the end of the project.

I served as Manager of Enterprise Architecture and Chief Architect for 21st Century Insurance. This was a very tough job, but it was a great opportunity to appreciate the importance of Enterprise Architecture in a large organizations. The difference between good and bad decisions in large companies means millions of dollars.

I ran the build of the Autoland system in 2000. I’ll quote their site as I think it is accurate:
Autoland is your one-stop-shop for auto buying at a great value. Online you can shop our large selection, calculate payments, configure a car, and compare new or used vehicles, all without having to leave your home or office. When you request a quote, a Member Service Representative will connect you to a Consultant who will give you expert advice to help make your decision easy and hassle-free.
This system has a logic engine with roughly one million rules for configuring every possible option on virtually every new car sold in America. I was the Director of the project, and I installed and configured this logic engine myself. We integrated the system with a new CRM system as well. This allows the “connect to consultants” portion to work flawlessly.

City National Bank is a Beverly Hills Bank specializing in extraordinary service for high-end customers. I ran the build of an Extranet for preferred customers. This system provded news, stock quotes, account access, account modification, and many other services. I designed an online Marketing materials distribution system for CNB as well.

Intelligent robotics. This event was all over the national news, so you likely saw something about it. I was on the Auto Intelligent team. I directed the software development of the vehicle. The vehicle had many sensors and it needed software to make sense out of what it was seeing. Cameras, laser range finders, GPS, accelerometers, and other instruments fed a Linux box, which then drove the vehicle around obstacles and through the course. This was and is a huge and important project. I’m lucky to have been involved.

I served as Director Of Internet Operations for 4 Wheel Parts. 4 Wheel Parts is the largest supplier of 4 wheel drive parts and accessories in the world. I ran a build of a completely new system for this sales channel, resulting in a 400% sales increase.
